May 2016

Well the dancing year has started!

For the last 5 years OUR dancing year has started with
St George's Day Fayre at St George's Church, Fordington.
This year it fell on 23rd April and we had 2 sets that were well received by our audience. There was also some excellent dancing by the public.

I'm sure there are some aspiring dancers who would love to do more!!!

May day 5:30 a.m. had Festus Derriman ( well most of us :) ) traditionally assembled on Weymouth's Old Stone Pier ready to dance the sunrise. Hats off also to the audience who had seen us at Fordington and wanted to be part of this enigmatic yet enjoyable tradition.
Stunning sun rise & Great!! breakfast at the harbourside Bistro who open up early for us.

Please see our dance programme and hope to meet and chat with you at one (or more!) of the charming Dorset locations.

Camp Bestival

29th-31st July

Our 5th year also dancing at this excellent festival at the Lulworth castle site. We teamed up with Wyvern Jubilee Morris Men this year. The weather was, yet again, kind to us and we shared 3 or 4 sets each day. Lots of enthusiastic support from our audiences and many opportunities for the public-young and less young- to join in....... Juliette's birthday Dorset 4 Hand reel was an unexpected treat.

For those there on the Friday we had the pleasure of meeting the delightful and very talented Pete, aka Duke Special, along with the equally delightful and quirkily talented percussionist Chip. Either the festival atmosphere, or possibly a lack of sleep, prompted Pete to invite the Morris on to the main stage to dance Bobby Shaftoe alongside him singing the lyrics. Within those few minutes he reduced sage and aged professionals including social workers, teachers, vets and aerospace engineers to star struck "teenagers"! Great experience.

FREE Morris Workshops

September 16th and/or September 23rd 2016
Upwey Village Hall, Upwey nr Weymouth

from 19:45--------21:30

no experience necessary.......any age group welcome but a core of 'younger' dancers to take the "Upwey Tradition" forward in the years to come would be great!....and of course, should you be bitten by the morris bug then you would be part of our dance out programme for 2017.

We look forward to seeing you
